Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society Ltd. is owned by its members - we are an equal-opportunities organisation allowing members to share in the profits through trading with us or investing with us and we actively encourage members to become involved in our governance structure.
Stand for election for the Members' Council, the Membership Committee or even the Society's Board of Directors.
Youth Council
We recently established a Youth Council with a clear intention of introducing young people to the idea of co-operation as a trading concept and demonstrating how we put our Values and Principles into action. It is hoped that Youth Council members will continue their connection with the society by involement in committees, trading with us, promoting our ideals and possibly becoming employees should suitable employment opportunities arise.
Activities and Meetings
Activities for members vary from informal get-togethers to formal business meetings. We hold regular events for members including coffee mornings and quizzes, we occasionally convene meetings of customers or special interest groups, including our annual Meet the Directors event and twice each year we hold formal members meetings where we reveal and explain our trading results, declare our Share of the Profits distribution rate and discuss our plans for the society's future.
Co-operative Values and Principles
We encourage members to learn more about our history and how our Values and Principles guide our business decisions and how our co-operative ethics underpin our operating model. Everything we do is focused on making Membership the core proposition for the enterprise.
