Religious and humanist representatives gathered at our Clare Road, Braintree Co-op Funeral Director’s branch last Friday to hold an online Christmas memorial service, to remember the loved ones we lost in 2022 and continuing to honour those lost in years prior.
The decision was made to hold their annual service online for the third year, despite restrictions from COVID no longer being in place, as many of the families they had been supporting were still nervous of resurgences and the emergence of other winter viruses.
Introduced by our Vice-President, Tony Prince, the compact service was compered by popular Celebrant, Peter Moule. Reverend Reid, well-known in the area, led those viewing the stream in prayer, whilst Celebrant Carolyn Turrall read a moving poem. Bagpiper, Matthew McRae performed two haunting numbers on the bagpipes, accompanied by the Royal British Legion Standard Bearer, and marking the lighting of the Christmas Tree.
The Christmas Tree, covered with messages of remembrance from families all over Essex and beyond, had been especially blessed.
By the close of the first weekend, over 250 people had watched the service through the Co-op Funeral team’s Facebook page.
Those without Facebook can still view the service on the Society’s YouTube channel here.
