Community Fund supports local academy with four-figure grant

Wednesday Dec 13, 2023

The Parkwood Academy, a primary school in Chelmsford supporting pupils aged between three and eleven years old, is the latest to receive a grant from our Chelmsford Star Community Fund.

The school will use the £1,000 grant to ensure all children attending during the year are given a healthy breakfast snack, something that many might think would be guaranteed at the start of their day before attending school but unfortunately is not the case for many of those attending Parkwood. The school also offers a discreet food-bank system in it’s reception area.

Leftover funds will also be used to bolster their ongoing ‘Mighty Oak’ project, an initiative aimed at building confidence, such as improving public speaking, for their pupils. New Headteacher, Lisa Cracknell, highlighted a number of ongoing projects and plans all aimed at better preparing the children under her care for the challenges of the future.

Pauline Dodd, Chair of the Membership Committee – the body of members who allocate where our grant funds are spent, said; “It was wonderful to hear about the plans Lisa has for the school. She is clearly passionate about what she does and seems to be perfectly suited for the challenge. The Committee will be very pleased to learn how the grant money will be spent.”
