Families assisted as Community Fund gets Snappy!

Tuesday Mar 26, 2024

Essex-based charity SNAP are the latest in an ever-growing line of beneficiaries from a Chelmsford Star Co-op Community Fund grant.

SNAP offers a range of services to families with children and young people who have any additional needs or disabilities, even making them available before any formal diagnosis or professional referral is available. Services include parent support, specialist training courses, counselling and educational advice, parent and pre-school training sessions, after-school clubs and holiday sessions, plus sibling support.

SNAP had applied to Essex Community Foundation for a £10k grant to help support the additional family needs that arise from offering a holiday club during the Easter school holidays. Our members agreed to support them through a donation from the Chelmsford Star Co-op Community Fund. The holiday club allows parents to have some respite during the holidays, and for children to have full access to all the fun and games, sensory room, outdoor equipment, books and play areas, plus build up their social skills.

SNAP have been offering these services for nearly 30 years. They currently support over 4,300 families, have run over 6,600 hours of children’s services and assisted over 7,000 through helpline calls and emails.

Pauline Dodd, Chair of the Member Council that allocates Community Fund spending, said, “What a wonderful team. They’ve been supporting so many families across Essex for several generations now, and making a real difference to so many. I’m so happy to see the Community Fund being put to such great use and they are a very worthy beneficiary.”
