Local Co-operate Society, Chelmsford Star has pledged during this year’s Co-operative Fortnight (24th June-6th July), to source and bring together the excellence of Essex food and beverage producers. This important initiative is to be promoted under the ‘Only Way is Local; Support your Essex Producer marque.
This will be rolled out across the Society’s convenience food store estate where each store (size dependant) will stock a number of Essex producers highlighted with promotional material.
The society deems that “local” means goods that have been cultivated or produced in Essex where possible, using locally sourced ingredients.
Marketing & PR Manager Vanessa Howard said;
“There is a huge raft of fantastic food and drink products being made in our county and as an Essex organisation; we felt it was time we shouted about them in a more meaningful way.”
“Our commitment to supporting Essex producers, means we can also contribute to the growth and stimulation of local commence making a positive impact on business growth, employment and prosperity”
“Furthermore, our members and customers can be confident that when they buy local produce they are supporting the Essex economy and the people who live here”
There is a huge interest in local food across the country with more and more farmer markets springing up. It would seem that people are prepared to pay that little bit more for local products which often have a more natural ingredient appeal.
Chelmsford Star will be highlighting over 20 of its suppliers at a food tasting event held at its quadrant department store, 220 Moulsham Street, Chelmsford between the hours of 6pm-9pm on Thursday 4th July.
