Local community project Cool To Be Kind is one of the latest beneficiaries from the Chelmsford Star Community Fund.
The group, which provides help and support to rough sleepers in the South East, was awarded £9,376 by the Essex Community Foundation, the organisation managing our Community Fund. Cool To Be Kind will use it to gather a wide range of information on support and services that are available to the homeless and collect it into a single resource that will make assistance easier and more effective. It will be made available to all through their “Street Support” platform.
Cool To Be Kind, which incorporates the popular Rucksack Project that saw huge success a few years ago, also advises the local council on rough-sleeping policies and is pushing for the ‘Housing First’ model to be adopted across the region.
The Chelmsford Star Co-op Community Fund is a grants programme funded by store collections, society donations and carrier bag sales, amongst other sources. Chelmsford Star members selected Cool To Be Kind from applications made for funding to the Essex Community Foundation.
Cool To Be Kind’s Brian McGovern, who was highly commended at the recent Pride of Essex Awards, said, “Thank you so so much for your incredible kindness, and thank you to all the people who work so hard to make what we do possible”.
