National Apple Day falls on 21st October and is a day dedicated entirely to celebrating all things apple: apple pie, apple sauce, apple muffins … The list goes on and on.
This day reminds us to appreciate the apple in its many forms. On 21st October, pick out your favourite variety and celebrate with apple lovers across the world.
As well as counting towards your 5 a day, seasonal British apples are packed with flavour. The British apple season begins around early October, and Co-op’s shelves will be stocked with delicious new-season apples from that point on — including crisp, sweet Royal Galas, flavoursome Bramley cooking apples and other great British varieties.
Crunchy, tangy, sweet and juicy, apples make a fantastic snack of course, but that’s not all they have to offer.
PICK OF THE CROP
Just a single medium-sized apple counts as a portion of your 5 a day. And at around 80 kcal per serving, they’re often lower in calories than many other snacks. Added to that, apples are a wonderfully versatile ingredient in all kinds of sweet and savoury dishes — like this Leek, Apple and Cheese Pie.
So, picking up a British apple from your local Co-op makes perfect sense all round!
