Local Co-operative Society, Chelmsford Star is to hold its Annual General Meeting (213th Members’ Meeting) in its quadrant department store, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford on Monday, 29th April at 6.30pm.
President Pauline Dodd will report on the growth of the Society which has been continuous year on year for well over a decade and will pay tribute to the current Chief Executive Officer, Tony Gudgeon who retires at the end of the week. Tony and his executive team were instrumental in the Society growth not only in sales but more importantly profitability.
Members will be updated on the Society trading position via presentations, which will share the Society’s plans for the immediate future to further increase its strength and size through both developments and acquisitions. It will also introduce the Society’s new Charity of the Year for 2013/14. Over the last 6 years, more than £170k has been raised for local charities including Canine Partners (Essex) which was the most recent charity to benefit.
As for elections, 9 candidates will contest 4 Director positions; 1 Membership Committee position and 4 Members’ Council positions, Pauline commented;
“This was an extremely healthy position to have so much interest shown by members wishing to take an active role in the Society. It is also encouraging to see the growing trend in postal voting.”
All members are encouraged to come to the meeting to learn more about their Society and those that attend will receive 1000 points to be added to their Co-operative Membership Card.
Copies of the Society’s Financial Accounts are available from customer services in the quadrant department stores and the website www.chelmsfordstar.coop.
