With a second lockdown starting this week, how has Chelmsford Star adapted?
The Co-operative Food
It's business as usual in our food stores at the moment, by which we mean there are no alterations to opening hours and hopefully no loss of availability. If everyone buys sensibly, we won't have to place limits on items and there will be plenty for everyone.
Our primary concern continues to be the safety of our colleagues and customers, and we ask that all those using our shops be aware of others when buying groceries, and ensure that a social distance is maintained. Please continue to keep a 2 metre distance, as some customers may be exempt from wearing face-coverings on medical grounds. Try to be patient if your trip isn't as quick as you'd like, and remember that our colleagues are people too, trying to do their best for their community. Respect and empathy go a long way.
Quadrant Department Stores
It was with heavy hearts that we closed the doors to our department stores again on 4th November. Having been closed for 3 months during the first lockdown, we were beginning to see a return to normal shopping numbers after we reopened again in July.
With there being slightly fewer restrictions on shops this time, we’re pleased to confirm that our warehouse delivery team will still be in action over the coming weeks. So if you're waiting on an item of furniture it should still be on the way. For enquiries about this or any Quadrant related-question call 01245 490101.
Subject to further announcements from the government, we fully expect both stores to be back open on the 3rd December.
The Co-operative Travel
Although unavailable for walk-ins, a couple of our dedicated co-op travel team will remain reachable by phone and email and will deal with all holiday enquiries and bookings throughout the lockdown. We thoroughly recommend using this time to consider your holiday plans for 2021 or even 2022! The sooner you book them the more perks and add-ons are likely to be available. You can reach the team on 01245 490290 or by heading to their website here.
Our co-op funeral teams continue to work under the most difficult of circumstances with the upmost compassion and professionalism. We are encouraging clients to phone or email with their arrangement wishes where possible. Thanks to our safety measures, our limousines remain in action for any service we arrange. Venues are still limiting the number available to attend funeral or memorial services to 'a maximum of 30'.
Sadly, our popular Christmas Remembrance Services are cancelled, however we are planning a live-stream event the week before Christmas Eve on 18th December at 4pm. This will take in some elements from the usual evening, such as the blessings and the Last Post bugler. For the latest updates on this, and to watch the evening unfold live, you will need to follow us on Facebook @yourlocalfuneraldirector. For more information when it is available, check our website.
You may remember that we held our AGM and interim update recently, streamed live. This is still available to watch 'on demand' here (you'll need your membership number to log in). As well as a trading update and business developments, we also announced that, despite many of our fundraising activities being cancelled, our members and colleagues raised over £34,000 for the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. Thank you for your generosity. Details of this and more can be found in the latest issue of our members' magazine, Starlight, available to download on our home page.
If you have any membership enquiries, our Member Hotline remains active throughout the lockdown on 0800 2540404 or you can reply to this email.
We continue to believe that co-operation within our community is the best way to come out of this pandemic as a stronger and more unified society. All at Chelmsford Star Co-op wish you and your families well.
