Chelmsford Star Co-operative joined forces with the Chelmsford Rotary Clubs in a 1960’s evening held in the quadrant department store on Wednesday 18th November. The aim was to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation and the Society’s charity of the year, Southend and Chelmsford MIND.
Over 220 attended enjoying a 60’s style buffet including old favourites such as spam fritters and cheese on sticks washed down with Black Tower wine.
Stylist Margaret Flemming, hosted a fashion event showcasing the stores latest collections modelled by Rotarians. Local producers had the opportunity to sample their products and GPlan furniture supplied an exclusive canvas by Hemmingway Designs which was to be won for the best comment made on the comfortable experienced of trying out the new 65 Chair.
The stars of the event where two original Vespas, including a 1965 model brought by Alan Stevens of the Essex Vespa Club and another magnificent vintage specimen owned by Dave Andrews.
The evening finished with a raffle featuring original 60’s merchandise, a Radley handbag and other items, donated by the quadrant plus locally made items from the local producers. In total the evening raised £1500.

“We have very successfully collaborated with the Chelmsford Rotary Clubs on events since 2007. Over this period not only have considerable funds have been raised for local charities but perhaps more importantly, their profiles were boosted too.”
