Essex-based charity, the Lighthouse Furniture Project, is one of the latest beneficiaries of a Chelmsford Star Co-op Community Fund grant.
The Lighthouse Furniture Project collects unwanted furniture, white goods and electrical appliances, restores them good as new and then passes them on for free or low cost to those who need the help most. The grant has allowed them to move in to a new workshop in Chelmsford that is better equipped for their needs, allowing them to work on more items and assist more families. Lighthouse CEO, Peter, said; “Whilst furniture reuse is our core activity, we support others through volunteering and partner with local charities and services to get help to the people that need it. This new space will enable us to do so much more.”
The Community Fund awards grants of between £1k and £5k to worthy causes chosen by Chelmsford Star Co-op members. Chair of the Committee which allocates the grants, Pauline Dodd, said; “I’m moved by the passion of Peter and his team. They clearly make a difference to many, and allow struggling families to continue to look after themselves, all whilst stopping unnecessary items from going to landfill.”
