Chelmsford Star supports Essex Pride

Chelmsford Star Co-op gave its support for the second year running by attending the annual Essex Pride Event held in Central Park in Chelmsford on Sunday 12th July.

The event was a celebration of diversity and equality which saw thousands from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community come together from Essex and beyond.

The Society took its place alongside the local radio stations, emergency services, local charities and the new mayor of Chelmsford. We gave out co-op rainbow laces and sweets and talked to many about our own belief in equality and diversity.

Head of Membership, Kevin Bennett commented;

“Chelmsford Star Co-op was proud to be involved in such an important event on the LGBT calendar. Everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves with live acts including x factor contestants, tribute bands, a funfair, dog show and much more. It was a perfect mix providing a great family friendly atmosphere.”

The event is now in its 12th year in Chelmsford and organiser Gary Ormes praised the Society on behalf of the Pride committee for its active support. He commented;

“As organisations, we have similar beliefs; such as the importance of a united community and we both value equality.”
