Kenyan Fairtrade Tea Farmer to Visit Chelmsford

Local Co-operative, Chelmsford Star will be running its annual evening event to promote ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ on Thursday 3rd March from 6.45pm, in its quadrant department store, Chelmsford.

The ticketed event, attended by the Mayor of Chelmsford aims to give attendees a greater understanding of Fairtrade which is promoted nationally from 29th February to 13th March 2016.

As such there will be a special presentation by tea farmer, Patrick Kaberia Muthaura from the Michimikuru Tea Company in Kenya. Besides being an employee of the Company, Patrick is also among the two members of the Fairtrade premiums committee elected by the workers to represent and articulate their issues in the premium board.

During his talk he will (with the aid of slides); discuss the impact of Fairtrade on the workers at the tea company.

At the event there will also be representatives from both the Chelmsford City Fairtrade Campaign Group and the Fairtrade Foundation. The latter will discuss their theme this year - ‘We’re sitting down to breakfast and standing up for Farmers.’

Tickets are £7 each and include a Fairtrade curry and dessert. They are available from Customer Services on the first floor at quadrant, 220 Moulsham Street or email events@chelmsfordstar.coop to reserve a space.
