The Society has reported a “generally positive” performance over the Christmas trading period.
In our food stores, sales in the three weeks between 16th December 2018 and 5th January 2019 were up by 5.08% ‘like for like’ as shoppers grabbed last-minute Christmas and New Year bargains from the Society’s 40 convenience stores in Essex.
Meanwhile, our Quadrant department stores in Braintree and Chelmsford had something of a resurgence, with an increase in gross takings of 11.05%, growing to 23.37% when looking at core turnover. These results have been attributed to an enhanced Christmas gift offering and our accompanying marketing campaign.
Society Chief Executive Officer, Barry Wood, said, “The Society’s performance reflects the sterling efforts our colleagues have put in over the Christmas period, and to be rewarded with a strong like for like performance at this key time is very pleasing”.
