Ingatestone Co-op General Assistant Joy Miller retires after 20 years service

On Thursday 13th February, General Assistant Joy Miller retired from the co-operative food, Ingatestone after 20 years loyal service.

A very tearful Joy was presented a bouquet of flowers from Pauline Dodd, Society President, Barry Wood, Chief Executive Officer and Store Manager, Bruce Brown. Customers also came into the store with gifts for Joy, showing what a valuable member of the Ingatestone community she has become.

Argentinean Fairtrade Wine Representative to visit Braintree during Fairtrade Fortnight

Daniela Cedron from the La Riojana wine co-operative in Argentina is to visit numerous venues in the south of the UK during Fairtrade Fortnight (24th February – 8 March 2014). This includes the Brambles restaurant at the quadrant department store in Braintree on Thursday 27th February at 11am, where she will be speaking at the members coffee club.

German Evening is good for all!

Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society joined forces with local Rotary Groups in a fun shopping evening in quadrant Chelmsford, and raised £1450 for Charity.

Over 200 packed the store to enjoy a mini fashion show as well as sample local delights from Essex Food Producers. Co-operative Energy was on hand both during the day at the High Chelmer Shopping Centre as well as at the evening to offer advice and kindly donated £5 for every quote given. The Society also gave the Rotarians a cake to celebrate the British and Irish 100th anniversary.

Society is a finalist in local Essex Business Awards

The Society has won numerous awards over the years and is hoping that 2013 brings a few more into its portfolio.

Firstly, it is a finalist in the Community category of the Essex Business Excellence Awards to be held on 12th September at Stockbrook Manor, Billericay. Secondly, its funeral division trading as Chelmsford Star Co-operative Funeral Services is also a finalist in the Newsquest Mid-Essex Business Awards. This is for Best Customer Service, and will be held on 13th September at Boreham House, Chelmsford.

Chelmsford Co-operative Party Celebrates 70 Years of Activity

The Chelmsford Co-operative Party was established on 24th August 1943 and exactly 70 years to the day, members and guests joined together in celebration of the event. Amongst those in attendance from Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society were Chief Executive Officer, Barry Wood, President Pauline Dodd, and former CEO Tony Gudgeon. 

Goodness Gang Encourages Youngsters to Eat Their 5 a Day!

In a bid to encourage youngsters to take more interest in fruit and vegetables, local co-operative society, Chelmsford Star has just introduced a collection of 7 loveable characters called the Goodness Gang into its food stores.

The set comprises of Bobby Broccoli, Grace Garlic, Ben Banana, Poppy Pear, Alfie Aubergine, Sophie Strawberry and Charlie Carrot.

Star Co-op Presents over £1250 to Local Community Groups!

Pauline Dodd, President of Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society will be presenting cheques to four of the Society’s Community Card groups at its quadrant department store in Chelmsford.

Canine Partners (Essex), Hearing Help Essex, Farleigh Hospice and the Chelmsford Gym Club will receive cheques totalling £1278 which they have earned using the fund raising initiative over the past year. Over 250 community groups within the Society’s Essex catchment area financially benefit from the scheme which has been running since 1999.

Chelmsford Star Co-operative Funerals Celebrates 20 Years of Service to the Braintree Community!

Chelmsford Star Co-operative Funeral Services is to celebrate the 20th anniversary since it first opened the doors of its Braintree Funeral Home in Clare Road off the town centre.
The branch is run on a daily basis by Family Liaison Officer, Pam Goldberger who has been there since the start. Prior to Clare Road, the Society had a funeral home at Bradford Street which Pam first joined in 1990.
