Braintree Quadrant Department Store is to open on Sundays

The quadrant department store in George Yard is due to extend its trading hours to include Sundays from 10.30am to 4.30pm from Sunday 3rd April 2016.

The store is one of two that is part of the Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society with the other being in Chelmsford which already trades on Sunday.

The Braintree quadrant is located in the George Yard shopping centre and is serviced by the council owned multi storey car park which costs just 10p to park in on Sunday.

Kenyan Fairtrade Tea Farmer to Visit Chelmsford

Local Co-operative, Chelmsford Star will be running its annual evening event to promote ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ on Thursday 3rd March from 6.45pm, in its quadrant department store, Chelmsford.

The ticketed event, attended by the Mayor of Chelmsford aims to give attendees a greater understanding of Fairtrade which is promoted nationally from 29th February to 13th March 2016.

Chelmsford Star Searches for its 10th Charity of the Year!

Local Co-operative Society, Chelmsford Star has embarked on its annual search for its ‘Charity of the Year’ initiative to commence in May 2016.

The scheme is now in its 9th year and has raised to date nearly £275 000 for Essex charities.

Pauline Dodd, Society President said;

‘We are currently looking for local registered charities to put themselves forward as potential candidates backed up with a two page A4 document in support of who they are and what the funds are required for.

Local Charity Benefits from a ‘Sixties’ night

Chelmsford Star Co-operative joined forces with the Chelmsford Rotary Clubs in a 1960’s evening held in the quadrant department store on Wednesday 18th November. The aim was to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation and the Society’s charity of the year, Southend and Chelmsford MIND.

Over 220 attended enjoying a 60’s style buffet including old favourites such as spam fritters and cheese on sticks washed down with Black Tower wine.

Our taste test winners are ‘possibly the perfect mince pies!’

This weekend, in the Sunday Express magazine’s taste test, our Truly Irresistible 6 Luxury All Butter Mince Pies were crowned the winners – topping the league with an unbeatable score of 10/10!

Sampling the supermarkets’ festive fare to find the best ready-made alternatives, the testers deemed ours to be quite ‘possibly the perfect mince pies!’ The combination of ‘deliciously soft, melt-in-the-mouth pastry’ brimming with ‘big, juicy fruit’ and ‘zesty filling’ scored top points, while the sugar glaze topping was described as ‘just enough… to add crunch without being sticky.’
