Local Co-operative, Chelmsford Star, is currently seeking enthusiastic, community minded individuals to help guide the business, represent its members and make a worthwhile contribution to the Society. What’s involved and the options available will be presented at its annual recruitment drive event called, ‘Meet the Directors’ held at the quadrant department store in Chelmsford.

Now in its 148th year with an annual turnover of over £100m, the Society is one of Mid-Essex’s biggest employers, with a workforce of over 850.

Chelmsford Star Commits to Reducing its Carbon Emissions

The Board of Directors at Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society has approved updated Energy and Environmental policies which provides for a commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 10% over the next five years.

The Society's attention is refocused by the revised policies, aimed at monitoring and managing the environmental impact of its operations.

Ellen Tredwin, Society Secretary commented;

" Our aim is to develop our business in a sustainable manner, whilst minimising our impact on the environment."

A New Boost for Chelmsford Star Co-op Members!

Chelmsford Star Co-operative has just launched an exciting new incentive for its members called ‘Community Boost’.

The membership department has liaised with a number of non-competing local and independent businesses as well as Essex franchises to produce a set of unique discounts and deals for its members.

Every time a member spends £10 or more in one transaction they will receive a number of deals appertaining to businesses local to the store that the member made a purchase in.

The Co-operative commits £1.5bn to sourcing UK products

The Co-operative Food has committed £1.5bn to UK farmers as part of plans to source more British products for its own-brand ranges.

All own-brand meat, with the exception of New Zealand lamb and Danish bacon, sold in Co-operative Food stores will be British as will be in its chilled ready meals and pies, sandwiches, eggs and milk.

Pride of Essex Awards recognise the county’s finest

Hosted by The Essex Chronicle at the Anglia Ruskin University on Tuesday 27th November, the extraordinary accomplishments of many courageous people who have triumphed over adversity were celebrated at the 20th Pride of Essex Awards.

Twenty-three prizes were handed to individuals and teams including record breakers, a severely disabled nine-year old who climbed a mountain, and charitable businesspeople on an emotional evening of tears, cheers and jubilation.

Meadgate gets a refit

Chelmsford Star Co-operative has just re-launched their Meadgate convenience food store into a new format.

The 2,000 sq ft store was closed for ten days to undergo a substantial make over which included a new floor and energy efficient chilled refrigeration with full length doors.

The store was opened by the Society’s President, Pauline Dodd, Margaret Blomfield (long serving colleague), Drew McSweeny (Store Manager) and Society mascot, Cooper the bear, who were met by a queue outside the door eager to use their local store again.

Marion finally steps down from Galleywood Coop after 40 years!

Marion Smee, a Supervisor at Chelmsford Star Co-operatives food store in Galleywood has just retired having just received a long service award for 40 years of service to the Society.

The Society presented Marion with a stunning French designer watch by Michel Herbelin for her service and a beautiful bouquet of flowers on her retirement.

Star Funerals to hold special Christmas service in St Luke’s

Chelmsford Star Co-operative Funeral Services are holding their annual Remembrance Service in St Luke’s Church Hall, Moulsham Lodge on Friday 12th December from 6.30pm to 8pm.

The event has ran for a number of year’s initially from the funeral home at Baddow Road, but it became so popular that it was re-located in 2012, in the hall at St Luke’s Church.

Moulsham Lodge gets a makeover!

Chelmsford Star Co-operative has just relaunched their Moulsham Lodge convenience food store into a new format.

The 5000 sq ft store was closed for ten days to undergo a substantial make over which included a new floor and energy efficient chilled refrigeration with full length doors. The refit team took the opportunity to change the fixture layout too so that fresh foods could be featured more prominently at the entrance area.  

The Co-operative Food named convenience store pizza retailer of the year

The Co-operative Food is delighted to have been named the UK’s number one ‘Convenience Store Pizza Retailer’ of the year at the Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association (PAPA) 2014 Awards.

Celebrating the best Italian Food industry, the prestigious accolade marks a successful year since the retailer re-launched its entire own-brand range of pizzas to create restaurant and takeaway-quality pizzas right on the doorstep, at a fraction of the cost.
