Co-op Funeral Directors is part of the Chelmsford Star Co-op family. As a long-established firm of Funeral Arrangers in Essex, with a heritage dating back to 1936, we are proud to serve our local communities and in many cases have been supporting families throughout the generations.

We care passionately about the customer service we offer, from the moment of first contact until after the funeral service, providing bereavement support groups for people who would like additional support. In fact, our team have won numerous local business awards over the years for demonstrating how we go above and beyond in supporting our customers.

We are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and also carry ‘Fair Funeral’ and ‘Good Funeral Guide’ accreditation. In 2021, we won ‘Best for Customer Focus’ in the local Business Awards whilst in 2022, we were named ‘Best Funeral Providers in Essex’ at the Business Excellence Awards. We work proudly with specialist insurers Ecclesiastical to provide secure pre-paid funeral plans to give peace of mind.

When our clients/families organise a funeral, they will be supported by a local Family Liaison Officer in their local branch, as well as our Funeral Services team.

Could you help to support them through this process as well as help grieving families?

Principal Duties

• To liaise with clients over the arrangements of the funeral
• To liaise with Doctors, Clergy, Crematorium and coroner in relation to the deceased and the necessary arrangements to be made in order that the funeral be carried out as per the client’s wishes.
• To show care and respect to the deceased at all times.
• To sell and administer Funeral Pre-Payment Plans
• To sell and administer monumental masonry
• To attend and help run the branches Bereavement and Aftercare Support Group as required
• To collect, record and administer donations on behalf of the client and pay over monies due to the beneficiary
• To record and check all personal belongings which remain with the deceased.
• To take part in the division’s inoculation programme to protect the spread of infections to employees
• To participate in a Saturday morning rota.
• To cover any other funeral branch as required.
