Friday Jul 05, 2024

In a display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, volunteers gathered for a litter pick event in Central Park, Chelmsford, during Co-op Fortnight. The annual event brings together individuals dedicated to making a positive impact on their local environment.

The litter pick, which took place today (5th July) saw participation from Co-op members, and colleagues who braved the rain showers to clean up one of Chelmsford’s green spaces. The collective effort resulted in the removal of several bags of waste from the park, highlighting the community’s commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

Kevin Bennett, Head of Membership & Marketing, commented “We are thrilled that people came along to volunteer this Co-op Fortnight. Our litter picks are a fantastic example of how we can come together to make a tangible difference in our community. Central Park is an important part of Chelmsford, and it’s great to see people willing to contribute to its upkeep.”

Co-op Fortnight, celebrated from June 24th to July 7th, is an annual event that emphasises the Co-operative movement’s values of solidarity and community action. The litter pick aligns perfectly with this year’s theme of ‘Co-operation for a Greener Future,’ reinforcing the role that collective effort plays in addressing environmental challenges.

Chelmsford Star Co-op encourages other local businesses and residents to continue the effort to keep Chelmsford clean and green. Future community initiatives are planned to sustain the momentum and further promote environmental consciousness.
